Twice the Burden, Twice the Love

Earning a living out on the farm with my wife is the only thing that gives me comfort. So often we plead with God in prayer, asking that He give me the strength to overcome this disease that has affected my legs for the past three years a disease that makes it nearly impossible for me to take care of my land. I would love to be healthy so I could provide more assistance to my wife, who is bound to a wheelchair due to Parkinson’s and joint damage. I have double the work to do now than when I was younger, because I not only have to raise my crops, I need to take care of my wife.” Orlando supports his wife through agriculture growing yuca, corn, and plantains. Over the past three years, normal farm chores have become increasingly painful for Orlando. Due to the high incidence of venomous snakes in his area, it is imperative absolutely critical– to wear rubber work boots, yet when Orlando puts them on they trap heat and humidity, making his legs react. In fact he suffers from chronic cellulitis in his legs due to the problem with wearing his boots, and when the weather gets hot, the condition becomes so bad that he can not work and has to take to his bed to treat the infection raging through his body.

Many times Orlando and his wife go without food until the neighbors give them the little they can spare and help bring them water from the river to drink.
Due to the isolation of Orlando’s village, medicine and treatment to alleviate suffering is scarce almost nonexistent. When Orlando and his wife were seen during a free medical clinic organized by AMOR Projects in their village,
they were relieved to gain access to treatments that helped ease their pain. They were delighted to have the missionaries visited them in their home, encouraging them and sharing hope through the Word of God. Orlando’s wife was moved to tears, as this was the first time in a long while that anyone besides Orlando had taken interest in her health, and her heart longed for care and understanding.
Thank you, dear donor, for ministering to so many people who, though they may have never met you, see the love of Christ through your generous support.
