When Hope Arrives: Luz’s Story of Healing, Faith, and Gratitude

In a house shared partitioned off to provide shelter to multiple families, 33 year old Luz Muñoz lives with her husband, mother and sisters. Living in such close proximity to others brings multiple challenges. Beyond her housing concerns, Luz’s biggest concern is the health and well-being of her family. A few months ago, her husband had to stop working due to liver problems and kidney stones, and anemia. This situation left them without income, forcing their 17-year-old son to work to help support the household. Despite their family’s efforts, her other children had to leave school due to there being no money to buy school supplies and the required uniforms.

Her own health has also been a concern. Years ago, she began to experience constant headaches, coughing, and a small lump in her throat that gradually grew larger. The demands of work led her to ignore these warning signs until the lump in her throat had grown quite large, with pain that became so unbearable that she had to quit her job. She saw a doctor who said that she urgently needed surgery to diagnose the cause of the lump.
“I was terrified when the doctor told me I needed surgery as soon as possible, that the lump could burst,” Luz says, her voice trembling. More than her own health, her biggest worry is not having the resources for the surgery or to be unable to continue caring for her children. In addition to the physical pain in her throat, the illness has taken a toll on her self-esteem. “Sometimes I feel ashamed and don’t want to leave the house because the lump on my neck is very noticeable,” she confesses.

Amid these difficulties, AMOR Projects has been a ray of hope. Thanks to their support, in addition to the free care offered at the clinic, Luz received funds to organize a chicken fundraiser to help pay for her surgery and to buy the specialized medication that she needs. Thanks to AMOR Projects’ donors from the United States and the help of God through the fundraiser, she was able to raise enough money for her surgery. This brought Luz great joy, as she shared with us: “I prayed many times to God to get the money for my surgery, and you came like angels from heaven, sent by God. Thank you so much to all the donors who made my prayer a reality. Thank you, God.”
Now Luz will be able to work again to support her household and help her daughters continue their studies. To AMOR Projects’s supporters she sends a heartfelt message of gratitude: “God will bless you even more. I am immensely grateful to everyone who helps us. Your support truly makes a difference.”
With faith and determination, Luz continues fighting to move forward and recover, hoping that one day, with the necessary help, she and her family can live a more stable life and take advantage of opportunities that come her way.
