A Life Marked by Pain but Sustained by Hope
80 year old María V. lives with her widowed 46 year-old son. Although he works long hours at his job as a cook, her son’s income is often not enough to cover their basic needs.
Fifteen years ago, María was in a traffic accident that left her with constant pain in her right shoulder and severe headaches. Despite her pain, she remains active growing cassava in her small garden. To make things worse, her blood pressure drops precipitously without warning, causing her to become light headed and in danger of falling, which could cause more injury. In spite of these challenges, she is determined to keep moving, because she is afraid that if she stops, she will lose her ability to walk.
Segundo, a AMOR Projects Bible instructor, together with student missionaries, began doing Bible studies and holding educational talks in the community Somos Progresivos. While visiting with local villagers, they met Maria, and, seeing her pain and need for help, they invited her to visit the project’s clinic. There, she was quickly attended to by Dr. Juan Carlos.
Thanks to the support of AMOR Projects María received medication and as well as a tank of propane so she would have fuel to cook her meals, since she did not have enough money to buy one.
