Seen, Loved, and Not Forgotten: Kevin’s Story
This is Kevin’s story.
Kevin is a young boy who was born with a neurodevelopmental disorder. To this day, his parents still do not know his exact diagnosis because they have never had the financial resources to take him to a neurologist or specialist.
Kevin never developed speech. He is not fully aware of his surroundings and is unable to meet his basic daily needs on his own. He struggles with balance and cannot walk steadily; when he tries, he often falls. I could see the marks on his small body from repeated falls. Because of his condition, Kevin requires constant supervision and care. He depends entirely on his parents for his survival.
Kevin comes from a farming family that works tirelessly each day to provide for their children. They labor with dignity and perseverance, but their income is often not enough to offer a better quality of life—especially for Kevin, who needs specialized care and medical attention that is far beyond their reach.
When I arrived at their home, his mother welcomed me warmly. In her eyes, I could see both exhaustion and unwavering strength. She shared her reality with me: “I can’t leave my house,” she said, “because my son depends completely on me. I cannot leave him alone—he falls and gets hurt.” In her voice there was concern, but in her gaze there was deep, steadfast love.
I explained that we had come to deliver groceries, clothing, and basic hygiene supplies for Kevin. She received them with heartfelt gratitude. She immediately began dressing him in the new clothes, smiling as she said to him, “Look what they brought for you.” That moment moved me deeply. I realized how what may seem like small gestures can remind a mother that she is not alone—that her child matters, that their story is seen.
As I watched this devoted mother carefully dress her son, I was reminded of something often said: that the love most similar to God’s love is a mother’s love. A love that does not depend on circumstances. A love that does not grow weary. A love that protects, endures, and remains faithful.
Before leaving, I asked if I could pray with them. She said yes. As I prayed over Kevin and his mother, I found myself thinking about the day when suffering will come to an end—when the brokenness we see today will be fully restored, and children like Kevin will be made whole.
Because of the generosity of AMOR Projects USA, GYC Peru, and you—our faithful donor—we have been able to reach this family and offer not only practical support, but a tangible moment of hope.
