She Never Gave Up – And You Can Be

Part of Her Story

42 year old Berta, is a single mom who has given her life for her children. She has always been hardworking, resilient, and dedicated to providing for her family, even in the midst of hardship. But slowly, her health began to fail. Constant fevers and pain became part of her daily life, forcing her to rely on medication to keep going and care for her children. Then a year ago, her life took a tragic and unexpected turn: she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Beyond the illness itself, what deeply impacted her heart was the way she was given the news. Instead of hope, she received harsh words. She was told to prepare for the worst.

She Never Gave

The fear of the unknown—and of leaving her children alone—was so overwhelming that she decided not to return for medical follow-ups. And as time passed, her condition worsened. About two months ago, Berta became critically ill: her fever would not go away, her pain intensified, and she experienced constant bleeding. She reached a point where she could no longer get out of bed.
That meant she had to stop working, and her 19-year-old son had to give up his studies to help support the family. He doesn’t earn enough to cover their expenses alone, and so Berta and her family rely on the support of relatives and close friends who, with what little they have, try to help them stay afloat.

We came to know Berta’s story through a contact at a nearby school where her children study. When we arrived at her home, we found a mother physically weakened yet with a heart that had not given up. We were able to provide her with medication, vitamins, and essential food supplies, and little by little, she has begun to regain strength.
This morning she and her two youngest children came to our clinic, and we were able to cry with her, pray with her, and share with her the hope of a world where there will be no more sorrow, nor crying, nor death (Revelation 21:4). “Thank you for your prayer, brother”, her daughter told me afterwards. Berta’s story is still unfolding. But thanks to your support, Berta is not alone. Please keep her in your prayers. Together, we will continue supporting the families who need it most.
