“Feeding the Body, Nourishing the Soul:  Bringing Hope to the Families of the Incarcerated”

Every Saturday morning, rain or shine, outside the prison in Pucallpa, hundreds of women gather in long lines. Many of them rise early with their children to visit their family members who are imprisoned here. Our mission is to share food and gather their contact information so we can visit their homes and bring them hope by teaching them about Jesus. He is their never failing help in the midst of their loved ones’ incarceration. As well as giving them food, we distribute Christian literature and encourage them to read the books we gift them, so that they may find peace and much-needed hope within those pages.

A few months ago we had a special effort to reach the mothers and children waiting to visit their loved ones. Each mother received a portion of food prepared by the GYC Peru team and by the family of Mauro Púa, who leads this ministry. Perhaps you’re wondering why I’m telling you a story from several months ago? Well, I must tell you that during this time, we have been calling every person we contacted and scheduling visits to bring them hope through God’s Word. Our hard work doesn’t end with the initial impact—it’s an ongoing process of building friendships and gaining their trust to visit their homes.

We’ve managed to visit more than 10 families from this group. We’ve shared personal higiene supplies with them for their incarcerated relatives. The need is great, and, although we are very willing to help, we lack enough hands to help, as many of them call us asking for assistance.
Dear donor, your contributions are a great blessing to these families. When you give to AMOR Projects USA, you share with families who are desperate and without a source of income. May God bless your family and your home for having the goodwill to share.
