All the doors opened for me to be here at Amor Projects in Pucalpa Peru, and I am loving it here! As a Pre-Med Psychology major at Southern Adventist University, I am here at Amor Projects to serve in a Spanish speakimg environment in the realms of medicine, education, and faith among others. But also, during my time here, I want to build personal connections with people here in Peru. I want to get to know people on a personal and spiritual level to enrich their relationship with God. I am excited to see how God will use me to strengthen the faith of myself and others!

Brielle Bennie

Hello everyone! Every day I thank God for bringing me here and the gift that learning and living here is. I feel so much peace that God wants me here in Pucallpa. I’ve always wanted to do mission work, but seeing God shine through the Amor Proyecto team and through each person we get to connect with has newly made me want to be a missionary long term. I have always wanted to become a medical doctor, and seeing the need here has made me want to be a doctor more than ever before. I love adventure, community, talking about what’s on peoples hearts, creating reasons to smile and laugh, learning, playing with kids, being in new challenges, and finding new ways to learn about Christ. Being here has made all that I love come to life more than ever before. God is creating endless beauty through every person on this team and I’m so grateful to be a small piece of this goodness.

I chose to be a missionary because I wanted to help people in any way I could. I also highly believe this experience will provide incredible personal and professional growth, as well as growth in my walk with God. I know we face uncertain times as a global family, but I believe God continues to call us as His disciples to share His love in tangible ways. Now more than ever, people need to see God’s love in action, and I know that He is faithful to provide what I need to fulfill this mission.

Juan Mendez

Hi! I’m a 20-year-old theology major at Southern Adventist University. Serving as a student missionary has been a dream of mine for almost as long as I can remember. My passion is to experience the love of Jesus and to embody and proclaim it to others, and coming to Amor Projects has given me many beautiful opportunities to do exactly that. I’m mostly working as a Bible worker–providing spiritual care at our clinics, conducting Bible studies and home visits, and preaching. In my free time, I enjoy reading and studying, spending time with my family and friends (I am very extroverted), playing soccer (I get to do that a lot here), going on outdoor adventures, and writing Scripture songs. My favorite Bible verse is Hebrews 12:3.

At the beginning of my journey to become a missionary, I felt uncertain and unsure of where God was leading me. Yet when a friend introduced me to AMOR Proyecto, the puzzle pieces I had struggled to fit began to fall into place. It became a place where I could not only use my medical knowledge but also pour my heart into meaningful work. God’s hand has been evident every step of the way, guiding me with love and purpose. I thank Him every day for blessing me with this new familia: a community that has embraced me, supported me, and become my true home in every sense of the word.

One of the biggest reasons I chose to become a student missionary was to step outside my comfort zone once again, this time, through a new lens and to deepen my relationship with God throughout this journey. Although I aspire to become a physician, the AMOR Project gives me the unique opportunity to serve in both clinical and academic settings, which allows me to experience the best of both worlds. The memories I’ve already made here are irreplaceable, and every day I feel blessed to serve alongside my new family, who have already made such a meaningful impact on my life.

Kate Rodriguez

Hi guys! My name is Kate Rodriguez, and I’m a sophomore nursing major at Southwestern Adventist University. I chose to serve at AMOR Projects because they’re dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus through medical care, education, and community outreach. What I love most about AMOR Projects is how it combines practical service with spiritual ministry — it’s not just about providing medical help, but also about connecting with people, building relationships, and being a light for Christ. Through this program, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in many ways, from teaching and helping in clinics to leading Bible studies and teaching volleyball. The community here in Peru has been incredibly welcoming and kind, and their joy and gratitude make every day so meaningful. Being part of AMOR Projects has truly been a blessing, opening my eyes to how God works through service and giving me a deeper appreciation for missions and ministry. I’m so thankful to be part of this project and excited to see how God continues to work through me during these next eight months!

Emmalyn Logan

Hi, I’m Emmalyn! I made the decision to become an SM when I was very young after hearing stories from my dad about his SM year in college. I came to AMOR Projects because of the variety of opportunities for service it offered and the added benefit of learning some Spanish over this year. I’m currently serving here by helping in the clinic, teaching English classes for local kids, and assisting an English teacher at an Adventist school in town four days a week. I recently graduated with a degree in secondary education, and it’s exciting to put my career knowledge into practice while I serve God here!
